The Ebira Community Youth Association in Ekiti state has condemned the last week shooting at the All Progressives Congress(APC) secretariat,in Ado Ekiti,describing the scenario as barbaric.
It will recalled on friday lastweek at the rally organized for the governorship candidate of the party,Dr Kayode Fayemi ,a policeman fired shot that injured six persons including Hon.Opeyemi Bamidele.
The group in a statement made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti which was signed by its President, Prince Abdulsalaam Oziandu and secretary ,Prince Suleiman Nurudeen alleged an assassination attempt on Dr. Fayemi , calling on the security agencies to arrest and prosecute those culpable to serve as deterrent to others.
They called on every citizens,irrespective of religion and political affiliation in the state to rise to the occasion before politicians with their selfish interest thrown the state into chaos.
The statement read," Expressing our view at this understanding as to the rules of the game of politics ,that it should not be taken as do or die affairs .The sovereign belong to the people of the state and the law have described the right of every individual in the state which include freedom of association and right to belong to any political party of one choice .So,we see no reason why one should be planning to assassinate another simply because of deference in political ideology .
"We think this should be taken serious and the government and its agencies should work critically to brought to book the perpetrators of such attack and let the culprits face the wrath of law to serve as deterrent to other who have the same dubious character ."
The group advised youth to avoid being used by desperate politicians to unleash terror on the people and truncate the current peace being enjoyed in the state .
Ahead of the July 14 poll, they urged federal government to ensure the security of the life an property before ,during and after the governorship election.
