BREAKING: Facebook Changes Its Name

BREAKING: Facebook Changes Its Name

Facebook has changed its name to Meta in a major rebrand as the social media giant continues to face an unprecedented scrutiny over its business practices.

The company said the new name would better “encompass” what it does now.

The firm has made clear its future goal to create an online world, called Metaverse, where people can work, game and communicate in a virtual environment, using VR headsets.

“We believe the metaverse will be the successor to the mobile internet. We’ll be able to feel present – like we’re right there with people no matter how far apart we actually are,” founder Mark Zuckerberg said. “We’ll be able to express ourselves in new joyful, completely immersive ways.”

He added: “The best way to understand the metaverse is to experience it yourself.”

The name change announcement was made at Facebook’s annual developer conference, the BBC reported.

The firm has come under fire and has been the subject of negative news coverage after a former employee leaked damaging documents showing the company knew its brands such as Instagram had negative impact on young people but focused more on profit-making.

The rebrand is expected to position the flagship app (Facebook) as one of several products under a parent company, Meta, following in the footsteps of Google which set up a holding company, Alphabet, in 2015.

Alleged N10bn Pension Cash: EFCC Grills Former Gov. Kwankwaso

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has grilled a former Kano Governorb Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in connection with alleged mismanagement of N10billion pension cash.

According to The Nation, the said pension remittances were alleged to have been used to fund a housing project for some cronies.

According to a source, the EFCC invited the former Governor following a petition by some retired employees of the Kano State Government.

The source said: “Kwankwaso reported to the EFCC today(Saturday) and he is currently being grilled by a team of operatives at the commission’s headquarters Abuja.

” He is being questioned over allegations of abuse of office, diversion of public funds and fraudulent allocation of government properties to cronies.

” Kwankwaso who is also a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party was first invited by the EFCC in September but failed to honour the invitation.”

Another source said he “may have been invited in relation to a petition by some retired employees of the Kano State Government who had earlier petitioned the EFCC, complaining that the former Governor mismanaged pension remittances to the tune of N10billion between 2011 and 2015, to fund a housing project for cronies.”

The Head of Media and Publicity of EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren did not comment on the interrogation of the former Governor when contacted on Saturday.

REVIEW: KOB sequel reflects Nigeriaโ€™s politics and tussle for power - Damilola Olufemi

REVIEW: KOB sequel reflects Nigeria’s politics and tussle for power

- Damilola Olufemi

The return of the ‘King of Boys‘ (KOB) sequel came with a lot of suspense, war, and struggle for power. Eniola Salami’s return to her fatherland after years of disappearance could be likened to one the holy book refers to as the coming back of the prodigal son who had lost it in a foreign country with nothing left since all her financial accounts were frozen in addition to the attendant pains of losing her children.

Tracing her foot back home indicates her zeal to reset the broken system in the country and her businesses since she left.

Kemi Adetiba’s continuation of the well-scripted movie currently remains the talk of the town among film lovers. The appearance of Sola Sobowale (Eniola Salami), Remilekun “Reminisce” Safaru (Makanaki), and Charlyboy in the sequel is pictured to the mind of viewers with the question, “who wears the crown?”

The dignity embedded in the project earns it a seat among the top movies trending in Nigeria presently and looked poised to continue garnering momentum in months to come.

The focus on Dapo Banjo’s lifestyle and prescient to work as a proactive journalist portrays what every (investigative) journalist face in the course of news reportage and practice of “true journalism” which every professional in the media landscape do not see as alien.

A robust collaboration of this saw him earned a commendation from his boss on the trail of what could have transpired between the president and the desperate gubernatorial candidate, Eniola Salami which his boss marked with a response as “this is true journalism.”

But was the “true journalism” able to get a happy ending just like what mostly happens between subordinates and boss? Dapo’s career was being ruined by his boss who had concluded he is having an affair with Jumoke Randle, the governor’s wife, who is the major opponent against Oba.

For his boss to sustain his own media, the young man’s career had to be toyed with — a typical reflection of the saying if a man’s life isn’t ruined, that of another wouldn’t blossom.

The same risk, emotional disorder, and stress Dapo faced is a typical illustration of what journalists go through to unravel information to the public.

The theme of the movie illustrates women’s participation in politics, current economic hardship, betrayal, murder, suspense, tussle for political power, insecurity, judicial bias, religious affection with politicians, media conspiracy, sabotage, and godfatherism.

JOURNALISTS AT RISK AND REPLICA OF DELE GIWA’S DEATH

On October 29, 1986, the renowned Journalist, Dele Giwa was killed through a letter bomb and we witnessed a repeat of the incident in ‘King of Boys 2’. In this case, however, it was Akpan who laid his life, saving that of Dapo. Akpan was killed the same way late Dele Giwa was killed — through bomb letter.

A display of that by Kemi Adetiba points out a few of the many risks journalists passed through every day as hazards in the course of discharging their duties.

THUGGERY AND ELECTION BLOODSHED

Both Akin Lewis and ‘Oba awon boys‘ are burning flames which can not be quench easily. They both chose thuggery as part of what hobbies are, which we all see to be a yearly celebration in the country once the election draws nearer.

Political thuggery has become inevitable in the Nigerian political system just as “Aare” categorically asked Jumoke Randle:

“Are your ready to kill?”, “Do you have the liver to finish this journey, if we start?”

This was also reflected when Eniola Salami told Ade Tiger: “When I become the govern, you can be whatever you like” with the latter replying “You know I don’t have any other job than being a thug.”

INSECURITY AS MEANS OF LIVELIHOOD

Kemi Adetiba must have taken her time to study the situation of the country as insecurity has become a source of livelihood for some while some lament over the loved ones they lost in the process.

She was able to picture this in the movie scene as a security guard at the gubernatorial debate premises planted a bomb on Eniola Salami’s convoy after accepting an offer of N50,000 from her opposition.

Hunger, economic hardship, family sustenance led him to such. A replica of this is what we are witnessing in the country as bandits now kidnap people and demand money and even food items as ransoms before releasing those they abducted to their loved ones.

MEDICAL HEALTH CONSPIRACY, MEDIA SABOTAGE, AND JUDICIAL ROMANCE

Medical personnel and judicial custodians in some cases formed alliances with reputable personalities just as fake ailment with a medical condition was arranged for “Aare” to save him from being exposed and Judge consented because of being a friend of him which was not genuine.

This becomes part of what ruins a nation and makes it lag behind when justice is not served to those who are guilty.

The use of media men and religious leaders by politicians to achieve their personal selfish interest just like Jumoke Randle did to Dapo Banjo of Conscience Newspaper, as thought by the Newspaper publisher does not seems to depart the country; especially when elections draw closer.

Politicians keep being “submissive”, pledging allegiance, romancing religious leaders with donations and heartfelt support to their religious associations — a usual occurrence in Nigerian once the election is around the corner.

WOMEN PARTICIPATION IN POLITICS

As the movie showcased Kemi Adetiba and Sola Sobowale for their giant strides in the project as women, it serves a reminder too for women to participate in politics just like their male counterparts and should be self-reliant rather than waiting for tips from other sex.

Sola Sobowale confidently raised her voice during a campaign saying, “All I have today, I worked for them” though she is “the king of boys”

The movie pointed out societal errors including that of gender imbalance that needs to be corrected in Nigeria.

SOCIETAL ERRORS

Despite Dapo being a vibrant journalist, he was unable to know when to be a father to his son. He placed his work over his family and this prompted a rift between him and his wife when the young boy had an accident.

The perspective of Kemi Adetiba lays importance on the pertinence of family members just like Odogwu showed rather than the negligence of Dapo who thought to have knowledge of such.

However, the movie failed to recognise the Hausa language just like the ‘Lionheart’ movie by Genevive and ‘Gold Statue’ by Kunle Afolayan which never recognised Igbo language respectively.

Eniola Salami is a master game player – she knows how to play her game as she said in the concluding part, “the mistake you all (elders on the table) did was to underestimate me. I learn how to read the moves of my enemies before they plan it”.

No doubt, the execution of the project by Kemi Adetiba has placed the phase of Nigeria’s movies a step ahead in the international scene. I foresee it gaining global recognition and awards.

Truly, the return of the King is a new dispensation to Nigeria’s entertainment in the global market.

Ondo Federal Lawmaker Adedayo Omolafe โ€˜Expensiveโ€™ Is Dead

Ondo Federal Lawmaker Adedayo Omolafe ‘Expensive’ Is Dead

A federal lawmaker representing Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Adedayo Omolafe, popularly known as “Expensive”, is dead.

AMILOADED gathered that Omolafe, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, died around 2am on Monday at his residence in Abuja.

The Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Kennedy Peretei, confirmed his demise.

He said, “Yes it is true, he died in Abuja this morning. We will soon issue a statement on it.”

Omolafe was elected in 2019 under the platform of the PDP to represent the people of Akure north and south at the Lower chamber after several attempts by the late politician to secure the seat since he last served as the chairman of Akure South local government during the regime of the late Olusegun Agagu in 2009.

Expensive later led a fierce legal battle as the chairman of ALGON in Ondo State against the unlawful removal of the 18 local government chairmen by the then newly sworn in government of Dr Olusegun Mimiko after the appeal court sitting in Benin sacked the late Olusegun Agagu of PDP from office and Mimiko’s Labour party took over the reins of affairs in Ondo state.

ALBUM REVIEW: Omawumi addresses societal ills in โ€˜Love Deep High Lifeโ€™ By Damilola Olufemi

ALBUM REVIEW: Omawumi addresses societal ills in ‘Love Deep High Life’ By Damilola Olufemi

ALBUM REVIEW: Omawumi addresses societal ills in ‘Love Deep High Life’

By Damilola Olufemi

Two years after the release of ‘In Her Feelings’ album, Omawumi, Nigerian R&B singer, who has relatively been quiet in the music landscape since 2019 is back to what she’s known for.

The music star recently came through with ‘Love Deep High Life’, her much-awaited album, to promote love, feelings and affection not just between lovers but for everyone. She also took a step further in the project to address some societal ills such as corruption, failure to fulfil promises, negligence of responsibilities from government and political officeholders.

‘The Love Deep, High Life’ is Omawumi’s fourth album. Just like every other artiste, the singer, known for her Afro-pop genre, experimented with other music genres in her latest album.

The theme of the album entails hunger, corruption, depression, oppression, heartbreak, financial support, suffering, love, affection, negligence, and zero attitudes toward responsibilities.

WORK DELIVERY OF OMAWUMI SINCE 2015

After the release of her debut album, ‘Wonder Woman’ in 2009 and her second titled ‘Lasso of Truth’ in 2015, Omawumi has maintained consistency in releasing albums.

In 2017 for instance, the musician dropped ‘Timeless’ before releasing ‘In Her Feelings’ in 2019. Between 2019 and 2021, the Delta-born singer surprised the music industry with a new hit; possibly after ‘Her Feelings’ have finally resulted to ‘Love’ as she titles the 2021 album ‘Deep Love, High Life.’

But one constant factor is the fact that it has become a tradition for Omawumi to release albums every two years considering the trend between 2015 to 2021. Well, what really matters is the ability to deliver and she has proven her mettle in this regard.

The music guru who knows the industry too well that she can’t be put aside when big names are mentioned. For the singer to bring up an album at this time shows she still has more in stock to dish out to her fans; especially with the high-rated artistes she collaborated with in the project.

Taking 2015, 2017, and 2019 as case studies, the big question now is, are we to watch out for Omawumi until 2023 when she will possibly release another album? Only time will tell.
But before then, her new album deserves praise for the quality of work and production delivery.

ANALYSIS: ‘DEEP LOVE HIGH LIFE’

Listening to Omawumi’s new album, one will notice the anxiety, happiness, joy and betrayal that filled it all. I can deduce the award-winning singer was able to arrest the minds of her fans and music lovers thoroughly with the stories we all can see in the society as a concern.

The 10-track fully packaged album describes what affects virtually every average individual. The stories lyrically narrated by the singer and actress explain what we all see every day and talk about every single second. Omawumi did not fail to narrate family, relationships, politics, economic, and security challenges in the work – just like favourite rapper, Falz’s ‘Moral Instruction’ did.

Omawumi featured the likes of Waje, ‘Thunder Fire You’ crooner, Ric Hassani; Brymo, the ‘Ara’ Lord, and the veteran rapper, Phyno. Each of these top-notch artistes aced their given roles in grand style as expected.

The collaboration between Omawumi and Waje is nothing compared to being a family sister.

The ‘My Darling’ song jumped on by both singers describes a beautiful moment relationship lovers would always want from each other. Part of the lyrics by Omawumi sang:

“When I’m feeling down, you be my antidote. Loving you to kan to kan. No be sugarcoat o”

The cool, high-life song is best listened to in a solemn atmosphere “streetly” referred to as “weather for two” with no interference from any third party.

Featuring the ‘Thunder Fire You’ crooner, Ric Hassani on the ‘Coast to Coast’ track off the album see Omawumi performing to a slight part of blues music genre but with a concentration on Afrobeats. The song with a very short lyrics contained a detailed chorus of resonance from the duo.

Brymo singing the ‘Milk and Honey’ track brings to a reminder of his lover not to forget how long the journey as being and the promises made at the start. His angelic voice with the backup of Omawumi pictures to the mind of the listener how sweet love is, just like ‘Milk and Honey’.

“Sometimes, your love dey sweet sweet sweet. Sometimes your love dey pepper my body”

Even with Brymo assuring Omawumi love, the latter brings to the notice of the former that the relevance of money pushes the fulfilment of love. A part of her lyrics reads:

“I want the love that you give to give give and I also want your money. So, hustle o”

Also, Phyno crooner has once again proven his strength and class in the music industry. Collaborating with Omawumi gives a clear insight into what he has and the perfection of doing more. The ‘Highway’ crooner grabbed the microphone and amazingly gives the High Life album of Omawumi a beautiful meaning the more.

‘Joy’ by Omawumi is considered to give the album a moment of happiness. The soul singer was able to flow in between the rap beat and delivered quality with her afrobeat skill.

The album is not complete without the “Bullshit’ track sang only by Omawumi. The tracks explain rotten practices and conduct of government official especially a politician who finds it as joy to depress citizens.

An extract of the lyrics by Omawumi reads:

“…I don’t see anything wrong and title it bullshit”

She did not stop making references when the youths were referred to as nothing. The ‘soro soke’, Lagos traffic and economic meltdown, hardship faced by Nigerians in the hand of their government are some of what she talked about.

The chorus pictured the scenario as she sang:

“Most people like to give you bullshit
Your government are saying bullshit
You self you are taking that bullshit”

With Omawumi joining the rest of the personalities and celebrities to calm down wrongdoing of government in the society, will this actually put an end to what Nigerians refer to as “one chance?”

Omawumi whose associate acts include 2Baba, Timaya, Flavour, Wizkid, Cobhams Asuquo, and Lynxxx has been able to preach, lift the banner for a better nation — Nigeria and mental reasoning ahead of electoral activities coming up.

The musician is renowned for her ability to capture the hearts of people with her songs. No doubt, I expect the new album to win awards and gain massive airplay in the coming months.

Popular Actress, Rachel Oniga, is Dead

Reports has it that Nigerian multi talented actress, Rachel Oniga, has passed on.

While some indications suggest that she may have lost a battle to COVID, the confirmed cause of her death is yet unknown.

Taking to his Instagram page, producer cum investigative blogger, Samklef, revealed that the Nollywood veteran actress, Rachel, has died.

Late Mrs Rachel Oniga’s last post on Instagram was in June 2021, which she took with Denrele Edun.
